Energy Saving Rebates and Programs

The Town of Danvers offers rebates on a variety of Energy Star appliances, central ACs and air source heat pump systems (ducted and ductless mini-split). Your purchase must meet specific terms and conditions to qualify for a rebate; the DED account must also meet eligibility requirements. There are several ways to learn about requirements and how to submit an application: 

(1) The Appliance Rebate Application and  Air Source Heat Pump & Central AC Application outline the terms, conditions and submmission information to qualify for a rebate. You can complete applications either digitally or on paper and submit via email or traditional mail.

(2) The DED customer portal allows you to complete an online application, via the Rebate Form for Online Submission. To use the portal, you must be able to upload required documents.  

(3) Pick up paper copies of rebate applications from the Danvers’ town offices: Business Division, 2 Burroughs Street or DPW Admin Office at 1 Sylvan Street.

Accountholder terms & conditions:

  • The maximum amount of rebates is $300 per year for appliances. Appliances include thermostats, window or room ACs, dehumidifiers, refrigerators, and heat pump water heaters.
  • The max amount for air source heat pumps and central AC systems is $2000. A system is defined by the number of outdoor units and ranges from $250 to $500 per unit, depending on the system’s efficiency ratings. 
  • Electrical account must be active, residential, and in good standing. 
  • Purchase must be installed at accountholder’s address. 
  • Allow DED to inspect your installation if it deems necessary.
  • Purchase must be made within the 2019 calendar year.
  • Applications for the 2019 calendar year must be received at Energy New England by Jan. 31, 2020. 
  • Rebates are subject to available funds and can expire anytime.
  • DED can also terminate the program at any time it chooses. 
  • DED assumes no liability whatsoever for your purchase, its installation, or performance. 

Appliance/Heat Pump/Central AC requirements:

  • Thermostats, window or room ACs, dehumidifiers, refrigerators, and heat pump water heaters must be Energy Star certified. Certified products will show the Energy Star logo on the yellow Energy Guide label that is usually attached to appliances (dehumidifiers and clothes dryers usually don’t have an energy guide label.) You will need to provide proof of Energy Star certification regardless of the label’s presence. Below are other sources of proof to include with your application.
    • Printed or uploaded screen shot of appliance model on the Energy Star product look-up website: https://www.energystar.gov/products/energy-star-most-efficient. Search your model by type, brand, and model number.
    • Online: Retailers usually provide a link to more detailed product specifications. But, retailers can be wrong. The best proof is the Energy Star logo on the Energy Guide or the Energy Star product look-up site.  
  • Heat pumps and central AC systems must meet certain efficiency ratings: SEER* and HSPF**. If you are unfamiliar with these products, ask your installer to locate this information and list it on the itemized invoice. 

*The Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) measures a cooling system’s efficiency. A higher SEER number signifies higher system efficiency.

**The Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) measures an air source heat pump’s efficiency . A higher HSPF number signifies higher system efficiency.

Electricity use is highest in the summer when everyone is using their air conditioner or swimming pool to beat the heat. DED needs your help to keep its electrical systems running efficiently on the hottest summer days. Residents and businesses can sign up for the Electric Peak Savings Program by visiting PeakSavingsProgram.com. DED will send you an email alert the day before a peak event occurs. Click “YES” in the email to confirm that you’re participating.

For each verified reduction in your electricity use, DED will enter residents in a raffle for a 1 in 25 chance to win a $25 electric bill credit. Use DED’s How to Save plans to make the biggest impact! Businesses that successfully participate are entered into a raffle for a chance to win a $100 electric bill credit.
