Energy Saving Rebates and Programs

When  an appliance is purchased there are two price tags for the item: what you pay to take it home and what you pay for the energy and the water it will use. ENERGY STAR compliant models typically use 10-40% less energy and water compared to standard models.

There are multiple benefits from using ENERGY STAR qualified appliances. They save customers money by using less energy, and provide aid in the fight against climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

A residential customer purchasing an ENERGY STAR compliant appliance will receive a rebate of up 10%, not to exceed the following amounts for each appliance. The incentive will be applied to your electric account and is subject to funds availability.

  • Refrigerators, freezers, and clothes washers and dryers will receive an incentive up to $75.
  • Dishwashers and air purifiers will receive an incentive up to $50.
  • Room air conditioners will receive an incentive up to $25.
  • Dehumidifiers will receive an incentive up to $20.

Please submit the ENERGY STAR Appliance Rebate Form to request your rebate.

Energy New England (ENE) provides conservation services for the residential customers of its partnering utilities. ENE’s highly trained and experienced Residential Energy Advisors can examine your home and identify heating, lighting, and weatherization opportunities to be more efficient and save money on your utility bills.

About one-seventh of all the electricity in the US is used to air condition buildings. ENERGY STAR qualified central air conditioners have a higher seasonal efficiency rating (SEER) than standard models, which makes them 8% more efficient than standard models. For a customer to qualify for this program they must purchase a central air conditioner that meets the following criteria. Air-Source Heat Pumps and Central Air Conditioners must be:

  • ≥ 8.5 HSPF/ ≥ 15 SEER/ ≥ 12.5 EER for split systems
  • ≥ 8.2 HSPF/ ≥ 15 SEER/ ≥ 12 EER for single package equipment (including gas/electric package units)
  • ≥ 15 SEER/ ≥ 12.5 EER for split systems
  • ≥ 15 SEER/ ≥ 12 EER for single package equipment (including gas/electric package units)

If you purchase an ENERGY STAR central air conditioner, you will receive a credit of 10% of the cost, not to exceed $300. This is a tiered incentive based on the efficiency of the cooling unit. For additional information, please see the Rebate Form.

The incentive will be applied to your electric account and is subject to funds availability.

Please submit the ENERGY STAR Central Air Conditioner Rebate Form to request your rebate.

With the price of fuel to heat a home today, many homeowners are replacing their older systems with ENERGY STAR compliant gas and oil boilers/furnaces to make every drop of fuel count. Although these products are expensive to purchase up front, the cost difference is paid back over time through lower energy bills.

ENERGY STAR compliant oil and gas furnaces have annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) ratings of 85% or higher, making them up to 16% more efficient than standard models. Gas Furnaces must have an AFUE of 95% or greater.

ENERGY STAR qualified boilers have annual utilization efficiency (AFUE) rating of 87% or greater. Whether the fuel is gas or oil, they are up to 12% more energy efficient than standard models.  They achieve greater efficiency with improved features such as electronic ignition that eliminates the need to have a pilot light burning all the time, new combustion technologies that extract more heat from the same amount of fuel, and sealed combustion that uses outside air to fuel the burner.

If you purchase an ENERGY STAR compliant heating system, you will receive a credit of 10% of the purchase price, not to exceed $250.00.

The incentive will be applied to your electric account and is subject to funds availability.

Please submit the Heating System/Burner Replacement Rebate Form to request your rebate.

ENERGY STAR compliant office equipment, such as computers, monitors, and imaging equipment (like printers and copiers), help to eliminate waste though special energy efficient designs. They use less electricity and enter into a low-power mode when they are not in use. The specifications for many office products continue to change, making it more difficult to earn the ENERGY STAR label. The current ENERGY STAR products are 25%-50% more efficient than standard equipment.

The products that fall under office equipment are: computers, laptops, copiers, fax machines, digital duplicators, external power adapters, notebook computers/tablet PCs, mailing machines, computer monitors, digital picture frames, printers, scanners, all in one units, water coolers, and computer servers.

The products that fall under home electronics are audio/ video and include: audio amplifiers, AV receivers, shelf systems, DVD players, Blu-ray disc players, docking stations for audio amplification or optical disc drive functions, battery charging systems, cordless phones and combination units, external power adapters, televisions, and set-top box imaging equipment.

If you purchase an item listed under the Home Office or Home Electronics description you will receive a credit of 15% of the cost, not to exceed $50.

The incentive will be applied to your electric account and is subject to funds availability.

Please submit the Home Office Equipment and Electronics Rebate Form to request your rebate.

The ENERGY STAR label being present on lighting means that the product is superior in energy efficiency.  ENERGY STAR decorative light strings use 75% less energy than conventional incandescent light strings, last ten times longer, and are cool to the touch. The ENERGY STAR qualified decorative light strings with LED technology are 90% more efficient. The electricity consumed by just one 7-watt incandescent bulb can power 140 LEDs or a 25 foot string of LEDs. If you purchase an ENERGY STAR rated LED lightbulb, you will receive a credit of 50%, not to exceed $50. The incentive will be applied to your electric account and is subject to funds availability.

You can also bring in your unbroken, burnt out CFLs to PUD, and it will make sure they are properly recycled.

Please submit the LED Light Bulb Rebate Form to request your rebate.

ENERGY STAR qualified lighting fixtures use 75% less energy, and distribute energy more evenly and efficiently than standard fixtures. They come in hundreds of decorative styles for either portable or hard-wired fixtures. Many fixtures have convenient features such as dimming on indoor models, and automatic daylight shut-off and motion sensors on outdoor models.

ENERGY STAR qualified ceiling fan/light combination units use improved motors, have a better blade design, and are over 60% more efficient than standard models.

The incentive will be applied to your electric account and is subject to funds availability. It will remain at 50% of the cost with a cap of $50.

Please submit the Lighting Fixtures and Ceiling Fan Rebate Form to request your rebate.

The New Construction rebate is available to encourage contractors to upgrade to ENERGY STAR compliant windows, doors, skylights, heating systems, appliances, lighting fixtures, central air conditioning, and water heaters. Since the current building code in the Town of Burrillville does not require contractors to install ENERGY STAR compliant products, the District feels this program is a great way to encourage energy efficiency and reduce the demand for electricity in new housing developments.

A contractor who installs the following items can receive a rebate, not to exceed $500 per unit/home in 2017:

  • ENERGY STAR Boiler/Furnace
  • ENERGY STAR Windows/Sky Lights (limit of 10)
  • ENERGY STAR Doors (limit of 1)
  • ENERGY STAR Appliances
  • ENERGY STAR Lighting Fixtures
  • ENERGY STAR Solar and Electric Heat Pump Water Heater
  • Central Air Conditioning (SEER ≥ 14)

The incentive will be applied to your electric account and is subject to funds availability.

Please submit the New Construction Rebate Form to request your rebate.

There are two eligibility requirements to qualify for weatherization incentives. You must (1) receive a free home energy assessment and (2) follow the recommended weatherization improvements that are listed in the accompanying Home Energy Assessment Report. The report will be provided to you after your home energy assessment. Schedule a home energy assessment through Energy New England’s online sign-up or call ENE at 888-772-4242 and download PUD’s Weatherization Application. You can choose your own licensed contractor; PUD doesn’t endorse or guarantee contractors. For your convenience, we’ve provided National Grid’s list of approved contractors for its home improvement programs, which are comparable to ours.

If you purchase ENERGY STAR compliant windows, doors, and sky lights for the northern area, then you will realize energy savings from lower energy use. The windows and doors help reduce heat loss in the winter, offer protection from the summer sun, and reduce condensation and interior fading as well. ENERGY STAR qualified windows, doors, and skylights keep your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

The District offers a rebate on ENERGY STAR windows ($15 per window, max of 10 windows per customer) and doors ($40, max of 1 door per customer). The incentive will be applied to your electric account and is subject to funds availability.
